A Message from the WLD
Greetings from your servants for E133! We are excited to begin our journey together and to share God's Blessings of another Emmaus Weekend. Our theme for the weekend is “Be The Centre!” It is taken from the title of Michael Frye's song “Be The Centre.” The song asks Jesus to be the centre (the British spelling of “center”) of our lives.
Matthew 14:22-33 tells the story of Jesus walking on the water and bidding Peter to do the same! It is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. The Disciples had just witnessed the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. It was late in the day and Jesus told them to get into the boat and go to the other side of the lake. Now the Sea of Galilee was about 12 Km at its widest part during Jesus' time. Most of the men were fishermen and were certainly capable of handling a boat on the this small body of water. Suddenly a storm blew in and the wind and waves were tossing the small boat all around. Then one of the Disciples noticed a shadow moving toward them and as it grew closer, it became apparent that it was the figure of a human walking on the water! The Disciples were terrified and cried out. Matthew tells us that Jesus heard their cries and answered, “"Take heart. It is I. Do not be afraid."” So Peter, being the bold one, says “"Lord, if it is you command me to come to you on the water".” Jesus answers with one word, “"Come".” Peter crawls out of the boat, first one foot and then the other and he lets go! It's just Peter and Jesus present on the water! Wow! Then it happens… Peter begins to feel the wind and then he sees the waves crashing around his feet and suddenly Peter realizes he is in the water in the middle of a storm with no boat under him. He begins to sink!
What is interesting about this story is that the storm was there around Peter even before Jesus commanded him to step out of the boat. Peter didn't begin to sink because a storm blew in after he began to walk on the water. He began to sink because his focus shifted from Jesus to the storm around him. His own fears had taken priority over Jesus' call. Every day, Jesus calls us to step out of the boat and follow him. If we can just keep Jesus as the “"centre"” in all we do and say, He will lead us through the storms of fear, setback, opposition or unexpected obstacles. He will be our vision, our path, our guide.
God has assembled a wonderful team of servants for this weekend. We move forward in faith and confidence knowing that we are covered by your prayers and supported by your good works. We know too that even now, God is shaping the hearts of those Pilgrims who will be called to this weekend, and we ask your continued prayers for each of them. We look forward to seeing you and your Pilgrims in New Windsor.

|* Day of Deeper Understanding
Our E133 DDU will be held at 8:30AM, Saturday, December 9, 2006 at St.Stephen’s UMC, Burke, VA in the Chapel. This will be a wonderful reunion, and a chance to learn a bit more about this amazing organization. Come hear about the history of the Walk to Emmaus, how the weekends are prepared, and how you can help with this blessed ministry opportunity.
Remember, you must attend a DDU before sponsoring friends or joining a Team.
Christ is Counting on You ~ See you there!!!
