![]() A Message from the Rector Greetings from the men of the team of E-116! Our theme for the weekend is taken from Isaac Watts’ powerful hymn “When I Survey The Wondrous Cross.” This hymn provides us a first-hand account of the passion of the cross. The words put us at the foot of the cross and afford us a small ~ bitter taste of the powerful emotion of the crucifixion. In fact ~ every emotion was present at the cross: sorrow ~ joy ~ hope ~ despair ~ contempt ~ relief ~ anguish ~ pride ~ humility ~ anger ~ and humiliation. But the most significant emotion there was love. His love for us was the reason He came and it was the reason He went to the cross. He participated in our human pain and death ~ so that we might participate in His Eternal Life ~ and all because He loves us. Amazing love ~ when you think about it. Watts ends his hymn with this:
